Sarcoma. What is it?

A sarcoma is a cancerous tumour in an area of the body developed from the mesenchyme.

The mesenchyme is the mesoderm or mesenchymal cells are the cells present from embryological development. These go on to form the tissues of the circulatory and lymphatic systems, as well as the muscular and skeletal systems. Most of the tissue forming the organs of these systems include cells from mesenchymal origin, mainly connective tissue. This connective tissue forms most bone, muscle and cartilage.

A malignant tumour originating from the mesenchyme is referred to as a sarcoma!
